The higher you raise a JK, the more the control arms at the axle end point at the ground. The sharper the angle, the harsher the ride and the more the handling/ride quality will suffer. Long arms are mounted closer to the center, which allows them (control arms) to be more parallel to the ground/frame. This will improve how well your JK handles/rides on/off road. Now the JK has longer arms compared to a TJ. With a 3" kit you can go either way, taller than that, then you should consider it. Shorts arms are just a simple bolt in vs. long arms involves cutting/welding/drilling etc.

ty for responding. does the long arms give more articulation because of the arms starting more level? at what lift would i need a dropped steering arm

Typically no on that actually. TeraFlex uses the same coil/shocks/bumpstops in both short arm and long arm kits. So both kits have the same range of flex. Now you could run longer than typical shocks for more flex, such as 6" shocks in a 4" kit. You just need to be careful about driveshaft clearance, tire rubbing etc. I would suggest a flip drag link kit over a dropped pitman, since drop pitman add more stress to the steering box.

Can you post a pic showing your current steering setup? A good pic showing everything from wheel to wheel would be great.
