The dealership is the local off road shop. My asking local guys has lead me to this particular dealership.

I spoke to the manager today and got my quote... $2200 for both axels. Parts and labor with a full lifetime warranty that they will honor. Also they will cover DC warranty items, say I bust an axel that my local dealer won't because of the gear change, they will. Seems a little steep. They use all american made parts. And modifying jeeps of all kinds is their speciality.

Thoughts?

That just sounds expensive. 1200-1500 would be more realistic

Paramaniac, you piqued my interest, so I called 4 wheel Parts as they are the most local off-road shop in my area for that kind of thing. They quoted me $409 for the parts and around $350 per axle for installation on 4.88's.

I can't speak to the warranty or how it would affect the factory warranty or anything, but all said and done, sounds like $1200 give or take is a better pricing guestimate.

so should i shop around, or is it worth the piece of mind knowing that i have the warranty if (when) i break something?

this is a tough decision. i was planning on $1500, the extra $700 or so is a lot of coin!

I have to respectfully disagree with your cousin. Not only is gearing the easier way to give your Jeep more leverage, but also, you'll spend way more trying to upgrade the engine....and with lesser results. You won't be happy with the preformance from all the money you spend on the engine VS the performance from how much you spend on gears. The gears are by far the best beng for the buck.

I dont think that price is out of line for a dealership if they warranty it when u brake. If you upgrade to a 35s or 37s I would be willing to bet they wont warranty it. They will probable say it broke due to oversized tires..

Remember the "Warranty" is only as good as the people backing it.

If you go to Northrigde right now the 5.13s and 4.88s with the overhaul kits are $699 an axle for Dana 44s. I am not sure what if any price difference would be for the same gears in the Dana 30.

So in parts you are looking at $1400 with a few hours of shop time it will over 2 grand in a hurry. Not sure where the difference is for places that use the overhaul kits versus the regular install parts.

I am with HC, the JK was under geared from the start, Rubis should of had 4.56s from the start and every Unlimited X and Sahara should have came with 4:10s. The 3.21s should never have been installed, insane

Same thing 4:88 to match rpms running 35s and 55.13s if you want a little more kick in the pants.
