Default Another Wheel Thread

I've done so many searches and read so many different threads, but I still can't figure it out. I've read the FAQ too, but the more I read, the more I get confused. All I want is to mount 265/75/16 winter tires on the proper size rims. I'm looking at the Soft 8 (or similar). What am I looking at in terms of width and backspace? I see everything from 16x7 to 16x9 and 4 inch to 5 inch. I don't get it anymore. I have no modifications done whatsoever on my Jeep. Can anybody please shed some light without confusing me more? Thanks a bunch.

The confusion probably lies in the fact that most the threads discuss this in inches not metric tire sizes.

A 265/75R15 tire is equivalent to a 31x10.5R15 tire.

You should have no problem with the height of tire since it only ~31" tall, so you only need to check for depth clearance.

The stock wheels have 6.25" backspacing. Some of the factory tires are 10" wide so a 10.5 wide tire will probably fit with this backspacing.

But since you are buying a set of wheels, you should get less backspacing so you can fit a wider in the future if you need to without using spacers.

Many of run on 12.5" wide tires which requires a 3.75" - 4.0" of backspacing so that might be a good choice.

My bad. I meant 265/75/16. That being said, thank you for the information. I'll see if I can make sense of it.

That just makes it a 32" tall tire, but still the same width.
Just get a 16" wheel with 4.5" backspace or less.
As for the width of the wheel, 7 or 8 inches should be just fine. A lot of people with 12.5" wide tires are running only 8 inch wide wheels. The 7's would work, but as was said above, if you plan on going wider in the future, go with 8" wide.

I would, but there aren't many available to the Canucks. Everybody here seems to have the upgraded wheels. I'm not willing to pay for shipping from the States anymore. I've been screwed over too many times by the Man.

Thanks guys. I think I have it figured out.
