Default Any regrets from installing a snorkel?

I am about to pull the trigger on an AEV snorkel. I just wanted to see if anyone regretted spending the $400 (kit+tools) to install it. All the trails around here are wet, year-round. I think the insurance against hydrolock would be a pretty solid consolation. What do you think? $400 is a nice chunk of change of funmoney for me to spend on a plastic tube. MPG gain/loss seems to be based on driver's foot weight.

Spot on on the nice chunk of change, they aren't cheap for sure.

From what you've described, if all the trails are wet, the money will be a good investment to keep from hydrolocking. Don't forget to extend your breather tubes though too, while you're installing. Either go with the Smilin' Bob's Kit from River Raider, or there's a write-up on Project-JK on how to do it.

Nice avatar, btw! I've been out to Jeep Road a few times in Kansas. I hear people keep stealing the sign though!

I don't have a snorkel (yet) but I have to imagine the 1st time the front right corner drops off in water and you KNOW that without a snorkel it would have sucked up water like a super model doing coke you'll be glad you spent the money.

No regrets...Best investment for $400 and saved me from hydrolocking on the trail! Like a few definitely extend your breather tubes for your diffs, tranny & transfer case with 5/16 fuel line!!

I followed 3 other rigs through this hole...but I caught a rut and it pulled me hard into a deep little hole and I had a good pucker factor.

Our sights were set on the Rockies and we had had just about enough prairie at that point from GA.
It was pretty much the most exciting part of Kansas, seeing that sign.

So, add to the $400 the cost of tubing and sealant.

I have hit deep water on a trail... much deeper than I expected and as the water washed over the top of the hood I vowed to buy a snorkel. We also get tropical storms with torrential rains and roads tend to flood out here. I would be the unlucky schmuck who hits a puddle at the perfect angle and drowns the airbox.

I guess it's time to start gathering materials...

My only regret getting the AEV snorkel was that I didn't get it sooner and that I spent tooooo much time and worry wondering if I "should" or "shouldn't". I don;'t have much extra jingle in my pocket, but I thought it not too expensive and installation was a breeze on my stock hood. Just do it, and besides, everyone will envy you !!
