Just wondering if it is really needed and if their are any benefits of removing it??

Not a good idea cuz there's nothing to hold things together on downward droop and I've seen shocks snap trying to hold the weight. If you ran limiting straps that might help but little upside to removing it IMO.

Not sure if you can see it in this pic but the shaft is busted, coil spring out, and the brakeline is busted as well...

 

My thought is it does not hinder my flex much (tested it with/without), and Jeep didn't spend a few bucks on millions of vehicles on something that "wasn't needed"...

 

yea its not worth it, a little more flex in the rear but it is nothing to right home about! other things i have notced is when you rear tires come off a rock it hits the ground hard, and it also when it is turning i could feel my axle moving back and forth. i flexed it so mucn 1 time that i snapped the brake line broke the pisyon of my shock and my coil fell out. trust me its not worth it.

 

frank lol you remember my jeep at truck haven lol? that was with no sway bar!
