Default Anyone using stock tire carrier with 35's?

Im curious if anyone is using their stock mounting bracket, with maybe extention? If so, how, if any, did you entend the factory spare tire bump stops?
I went out and bought some black pipe, the same diameter to the bump stop. Was going to cut it down, run a bolt and washers through it, then realized when i went outside this morning, and took the interior panels off the tailgate, there is no way to get to the holes really. (not enough to put a wrench on at least). Any helpful ideas, greatly appreciated. My spare tire vibrates on bumps, and i know how thin that alloy is holding it. I figure if there is a way to extend those stops to give it some extra side support would be a lot better.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to extend the rubber isolators as they themselves just screw into the tailgate loosely. I can tell you however that SDMF has his 35" spare making contact with the isolators and his tailgate still buckles when going over bumps. Need I say, he is looking to get a bumper tire carrier in the near future.

Well, I plan on getting a rear bumper with tire carrier. I was just looking to help support the sideways movement untill I get it. As of right now, I think Shrockworks is still awaiting their prototype rear bumper, and will start working on the tire carrier bit when they get it. So no telling how long it will be.

Just my 2 cents.

(how funny wol)
Look inside the rear door just under the lock and there is a male female type fitting on the door frame and door respectivally. You can adjust them with a 10mm socket quite easily and tighten up the rear door. It helps decreases the rattling and the excess flex.

Temporarily I am running a 37" spare on my factory tire carrier. I am waiting on a particular bumper / tire carrier that is currently not yet available.

I did not want to use a spacer due to the fear of the added leverage. To fit the 37 I cut off the 3rd brake light tower and removed the wiring. I then removed the snubbers and installed the tire. I measured the clearance, trimmed the snubbers, removed tire and reinstalled everything.

I do have a 1" body lift that provided the perfect amount of clearance tire / bumper. The tire rests on the bumper perfectly.

The tailgate does not flex and their are absolutely no rattles. While this situation is temporary I would have no issue leaving long term, if I didn't have other problems with the stock bumper.

Below is a picture showing why I have an issue with my stock bumper and how close the tire tucks in up against the body.

The factory mount feels really flimsy with my steel wheel and a 33" tire, I don't see it lasting too long with a 35".

In Duke's picture, it looks like a strap around the tire connected to the tow hitch would eliminate any "bounce". Not pretty. But likely effective.

I have no bounce. Tire rests soundly in bumper recess.
