Default Appropriate way to put JK on stands

How do you guys lift the JK up front to be put on stands. The reason I ask, I just helped a guy put on a tera BB on and jacked up the front by the diff. Of course, it tilted to the side a little. We put jack stands under and frame and jacked up each side until we were at sufficient height. This method made me a little nervous, I was waiting for one the jack stands to kick out. What is the most appropriate way and most efficient way to lift the front end of the JK.

That is how I did it with the parking brake on. I did lower the jack just a hair once I had the stands in place and try to move it. I weigh 220lbs. and got on the front bumper to make sure it would not go anywhere. Had no problems.

I never jack from the differential. Too unstable. I always use the bumper or axle - one wheel at a time. Once both front or both rear or all four are in place then it's time to work.

I would never jack up a vehicle by its diff to raise it...especially in the front as its offset. When your doing the front just do one side at a time, you don't need the whole thing up in the air. I believe you said you bought a floor jack right? Slide it under the frame just behind the tire leaving space for the stand. Loosen the lug nuts but don't remove them. I also loosened the sway bar and track bar links with it on the ground to minimize work with it lifted. Jack it up, raising the stand as you go in case the jack fails. once your up to your desired height, with the stand raised, slowly lower the jeep's frame onto the stand. You can put another stand in place of the jack for security. It may not make contact with the frame but you can get it close. Alternately you can leave the jack in place with the stand bearing the load. Then remove the wheel and get to work. With the tire off you can use the floor jack to jack the opposite side of the axle or the diff. to force more droop if you need it ( like when fitting the springs in) and when adjusting pinion/castor angel. My jack only goes to 20 inches, so I dont think jacking by the frame on each side would work. In the FT lift write up, WOL states to jack up opposite sides of the front axle, how solid are these axle, with all the breakage on the forum I could see myself breaking my axle by lifting it one side at a time.

Not a chance you will break the axle by jacking it. Go for it one side at a time, that is how I always do it.

OK, did a search, found this thread, but I'm still not sure. I'm installing my TF BB now and having trouble getting the beast onto stands. I've never had to jack anything this high with a floor jack. So when you say "one side at a time" do you mean jack one side, do the work, lower the Jeep, then jack the other side and do the work?

Because I just tried jack one side, put it on a stand (worked OK) then jack the other side to put it on a stand. When I did that, I could tell the fist stand was getting a crapload of side-load and the two inside feet of the stand even started coming off the ground. That's when I pulled the plug, lowered everything, and came inside for some more research.

Nothing was that I know of. But it might have been the angle I was jacking from. Was jacking on the axle from in front corners of the Jeep. Had the Jack angled so it could move front to back and a little side to side but maybe not enough.

Just went out and jacked from the frame like in the pics above. Jacked one side, then the other. Then went back around, lifted the first side and set it down on the stand again. Seems pretty solid, now. Thanks!
