ARB oil capacity on D30/D44
I just installed ARB diff covers and the instructions ask you to equate the position on the ARB dipstick to the bottom of the filler hole on the stock covers. I'm coming up with the D30 needing to be filled the the bottom 1/2" of the stick and the D44 the bottom 1.0". Is that consistent with other's measurements?
Honestly your measurements are going to be different whomever you ask. It depends on a lot of things mine require more than that because of lift and my pinion angle on the front and back. The rear I usually go a little less than halfway on the dipstick, making sure it gets high enough to make it's way into the outer axle. The front i don't honestly remember but I think its 1 and 1/4 quarts. I'd have to check to be sure but it's around that neighborhood.
It totally depends on your pinion and caster angles.... You need to cover more than half your axles. I'd say over fill them, the excess will blow out the breathers after you drive a few times and they heat up, bit messy, but after everything settles check your dipsticks... That will tell you how much to add from them on out.
The important thing is to get the oil level above the bottom of the axle tube, so it can lube the outer axle bearings in the rear, and lube the carrier bearings in the front axle.
Here is a picture showing the oil level as it relates to the OEM cover. Try to get the same level with your new cover/dip stick.

Mine took about 1 litre in the front, and just over 2 in the rear, which was consistant with what most people were adding.
I also followed the inst. that came with the covers, and set my covers side by side, used tape to extend the fill line on the stock
cover to the dipstick on the new ones. Then I marked the dipstick by filing a thin line into it.
As it turned out, that is almost exactly where the oil level was after I added the amounts specified.
As an added insurance I placed a capture bottle at the end of my overflow hose for a couple of days, just in case I had overfilled
it. None came out, so I figure I hit it pretty close to bang on.
