Default Argument for 5 wheels/tires?

Tell me why I should spend the money for the extra wheel and tire.
I will start.
Because this gives you a reason to buy the rear bumper and tire carrier.
In case I get stranded in the woods with a flat the stock spare may not do much to get me back.
Because it looks better.

So I can rotate the spare in my tire rotation and get more mileage from the set. ???
Size does matter on the ring and pinion.
I can't think of any other reasons. What am I missing?

Looks good this way! Old post good thread.

Because leaving the stocker on there with 4 other bigger tires looks dumb.
Because if you have a flat on the road, you can finish your trip without waiting for a fix.

I will run 5, until i get to 37" or above....Then a tow home would be cheaper Joking - Nobody I run with, with the larger tires carries a spare...its not economical...Maybe makes sense if youre a lone wolf out there...

A smaller spare may cause ESP issues if you actually have to use it. It would cause the sensor at the smaller tire to read more RPMs than the others and could "think" that it's spinning.

Well, you could probably fab up a really cool looking mount to hold some cans of fix-a-flats, to put where the spare would be. It'd be a lot cheaper.... And unique...

Its hard to sell the stock 4 wheels and tires to any other Jeep guys because they want to have the whole set.

I am thinking this may be your first jeep.

Reality is that most of us do a 5 tire rotation, or at least I have done that since my first CJ5. FWIW most of the peeps I wheel with do the same and have since they started.

Not to be offensive but IMHO if an extra tire and wheel is an issue maybe you should think of the old but used montra "Just Empty Every Pocket" and man up!

I personally smashed a wheel on my last trip out and if I hadn't had a spare of the same size I would have ruined my spiders with the 150 mile return trip. Something to think about as Murphy lives in all of our lives and only pops his head when we decide we are smarter then him...... Think about it?

Best Regards,

If you're gonna do four, you may as well do 2 on just one side. Save the money and people won't notice.
