i've never had a problem with them... they only work if you apply gas/power to that diff... does that make sense? with 35's on pavement/snow i've never had to put it into 4wd...

best money i've spent on any mod...

I've been runing my Aussie for over a year now and it has been great. I've beat the piss out of it on the SoCal rocks and I've had no problems with it.

On the trail if the front wants to push, just ease up on the throttle and it turns fine. Very easy to get used to, very durable.

In my opinion, unless you want to spend a tone of dough on a selectable, I would get an AuSsie over a Detroit, as they perform the same and it costs tons less. I wheel with guys with detroits and there really is no difference. I would have one in my rear as well, but I don't want an auto locker of any sort in the rear. For the front, it is excellent.
I echo everything dpoelstra said above.

It makes me giggle a little to hear vehement opposition to automatic lockers. I've driven lifted pickups in the Snow Belt for 20 years, several of them with automatic lockers. You adjust your speed and use the throttle judiciously, simple as that.

What did everyone do before selectables came in vogue?

A Happy Dana 30 Aussie Customer

i said I don't want an auto locker in the rear, but I may end up going that route. I am going to drive a friends jeep with a Detroit in the rear to see how it drives with the wheel base and the stick shift.

Just don't white know yet...

I would have a Detroit in the rear in a HEARTBEAT if one were made for the D44 Rubi axle... as it is, it's ARB or e-locker only.

I prefer auto lockers.

You could put a detroit back there, but you would have to go to 30 spline shafts.

Edit: Question for jeff. Do you have the x model that came with the optional e-locker in the rear, or did you buy a rear rubi axle? I thought the x models with the optional e-locker still had 30 spline shafts.

Interested in your thoughts of a Detroit over a Selectable. What about street manners?
