Default Aussie Locker - Good News!

I just got off the phone with an engineer at Aussie Locker. For those that are interested, the Dana 30 front axle in 2007 X and Sahara models will accept the standard Dana 30 Aussie Locker. I'll be ordering mine later today from Northridge4x4....

I'm thinking this, coupled with my Track Loc rear diff will give me some serious extra traction off road....

The Aussie Lockers are only 250.... And are easy enough to install yourself.

Hey that's great news! I was wondering if one would drop in without any problems. At least, it would see like it would. I ran this exact same setup on my TJ for a couple of years (before I got ARB's) and loved it. Made a HUGE difference on how well it performed on the trail. The only thing I would warn people of is the fact that if you live in an area that sees snow and/or icy roads on a regular basis, an auto locker can be difficult to drive in these conditions and I would advise against one.

Yup Here's a write-up I did for people to see just how easy it is to do:

Aussie Locker Dana 30 Installation Write-Up

This should pretty much be the same installation on a JK as well

The guys at Aussie warned me of the same thing. He suggested that if you have to drive on ice that it would be best to leave it in 2wd, but he swears it works great in snow. He also mentioned that a bunch of guys swear they are successfully using them on ice without problems.

Since I live in Arkansas, I only get 5-6 days worth of really icy roads a year so it won't bother me.

Had one in my '02 TJ. Gotta tell you I loved the thing!!! I'm in NH and we get our fair share of ice/snow. The locker likes to "push" forward when turning on snow/ice. So you learn to compensate, and adjust. When you feel the slight push, let off the gas a little and the tires re-bite, then ease back into it. It's really quite easy, and after a while you don't have to let off, you go into the turn knowing what to do. Highly recommend it.

As I said, it "can" be difficult to drive in ice/snow, not impossible. Certainly, I did it all the time heading up to Mammoth, Tahoe or Brianhead to go snowboarding. It just requires you to slow down and think about what you are doing is all
