Ok so about to re gear the jeep to some 5.13s. While the shop is in their I am going to have them go ahead and lock up the front. Was thinking maybe an Aussie locker up front. Anyone have expierence with these? What do u think? I use jeep every weekend for rock crawling and trail running. Thanks guys.

instead of the Aussie check out the Spartan. Same design but with a beefier pin and cost less

I run 35 BFGs with 5.13 gears and a front Aussie. Works great. Love it! Crawls like crazy!

The Spartan locker is only recommended for tires under 32" tall. I run 35s.

I have the Aussie up front and I love it. There is no tire size restriction either.

If you are going with an auto locker (of any kind) be sure to read up on the clicking / thumping they do in tight turns.

Off road the Aussie is a beast.

On-road I only notice it in parking garages.

As above stay away from the mall and you won't notice it. Tight turns on pavement and you'll get a kerchunking noise if you're moing to fast.

Default front locker

have had an aussie in the front for a year. brother has had one in his xj for 3 years, installed my dads for him in 1 hour. super easy to install and all the difference in the world off road. one of the best mods for my jeep so far. go for it you wont regret it. not to mention the price is right.

What would be the benefit of an activate locker over an always on? If the aussie doesnt affect the on-road driving much (you only hear clicking on tight turns on road)...

Such as an air locker vs the aussie?

I had an Aussie locker in my YJ. I know a YJ hehe. The locker worked great and I never had any problems with it.

Auto locker pros:

Cheap
Easy DIY mod
100% traction

Auto locker cons:

They are audible (you hear the ratcheting)
During really tight turns you can even feel the ratcheting
They are always "on" in 4WD... For some terrain (ice, tight wooded trails) this may not be desirable.

Selectable locker pros:

You can choose when you want them on/off

Selectable locker cons:

They are a LOT more expensive
For most Jeepers they are NOT a DIY project
They need a means of activation (air, electric, cable) which carries each their own pros/cons
