Default Aussie VS Detroit Truetrac need opinions

Going to regear and can not decide on a front locker. I am going with a selectable locker in the rear. But would like either a Aussie or Detroit truetrac in the front. I have read that Aussie lockers are noisy. After about 3 hours of searching this forum I can not decide between the two. After talking to two shops today they both recommended the Detroit truetrac for the front. And they both said it would be good for a DD. The Truetrac that is...

Does anyone here have experience with Detroit Truetrac in the front dana 30 axle? I have searched most of the day, But would like honest opinions on this locker.
Thanks in advance,
Frank

Well, the Tru-Trac is a complete carrier assembly, the Aussie replaces the spider gears. IMO, if you want to fully lock it, go with another selectable, or keep it cheap with the Aussie.

i did the Aussie in my front 30 about 2 months ago. gottta say i love it. its nice to have the front locked off road. easy install and from in the jeep the only time i may hear it is in the parking lot if i crank it all the way to get in a spot. in fact its quieter then i thought.

I have the truetrac up front...yes it is a complete unit to replace the open carrier, and you may consider a full selectable locker option at that point. Price wise the Aussie is your cheapest option, the truetrac is mid range (and its just a high biased limited slip) and obviously a selectable would be the more expensive optioin.
So far, for the off roading I do, the truetrac has performed marvelously. It most certainly has aided traction up front, but I dont do a lot of rock crawling.
On road in ice and snow or bone dry roads the truetrac goes unnoticed.
I am quite happy with my selection. I certainly couldnt justify an ARB.

I plan in the future on a Eaton E-locker for the rear. But right now I am trying to use the funds I have for the gears and install along with one locker. From what I have read the E-locker will only fit in dana 44 axles not the D30. And I'm not going to drop almost 1k on a ARB.

How does the Truetrac up front do on the street? Do you have all the noises that I have read on here that the Aussies put out?

yup I here you price wise...
The truetrac is entirely silent at all times on road, in parking lots or wherever.
Again...I dont rock crawl on a weekly basis. And because I had to replace the unit for regearing purposes, the truetrac fits all of my requirements without being cost prohibitive.

This is a question I myself am pondering.
Would the trutrac be good upfront here in Canada? I may use the 4x4 on-road in the snow/ice maybe three-five times per month through NOV-MAR but after that only when wheeling.

I have been looking at this option also for the front. Do you know what part # you used? I did not see a JK specific one...if one is needed.

The one I put in the rear of a 95 Bronco worked just right. I didn't know it was there til I gassed it and then it would lock up. Pulling away from a stop left or right and giving it half throttle would result in the inside tire chirping just like it should. With the ring gear it weighed about 40 lbs. I wouldn't use anything else cuz with the shims outboard of the bearings it's kinda easy to install.

Where did you read that the Aussie locker was noisy? I have one in the front and it is invisible unless you are turning full lock on hard pavement. Even then, you would have to have your windows down to hear the slight ratcheting. The Aussie is a full time auto locker where the Truetrac is a limited slip. If you do a lot of driving in snow and ice, the Truetrac may be a better option, but the Aussie will give you better traction off road.
