Default auto-trans skid plate issue with lift

So any feedback good or bad on the mod where the skid plate is notched out to prevent the front driveshaft boot from getting ripped after lifting your jeeps 3 inches or more?

I notched mine today. I think the boot is getting ripped from the clamp bolt sticking out to far and hitting the edge of the tranny pan itself. I took the clamp off and ziptied it, more clearence than the clamp.

I had the RE 3.5" kit and I notched the factory skid, but that was a different problem.
The problem that ripps the boot is the shafts boot clamp hitting the auto trans when flexing the Jeep.
Needless to say, I ran my Jeep for 8k miles with no boot at all...
It made it all last summer, through the Chicago area winter, and about 9 wheeling trips.
The stock shaft was still working fine when I upgraded to the 4.5 LA kit and replaced it in February

hmmm so notching it is really not the answer sounds like. thanks for the feed back. i will check out the clamp thing tomorrow.
i know the real answer is to get an aftermarket driveshaft.

Zip ties wont help either. My driveshaft has a wear spot on it so its gonna hit the zip tie too. Me personally, I would take the clamp off anyway, just so it doesn't F Up your tranny pan. The only real fix is an after market driveshaft, they are smaller in diameter.

I know this post is for the auto skid notch ....

BUT I have the 6spd and the Rock Hard skids, should I be ok?

Or is this mostly/only a auto trans problem?
