Default Auto transmission: deeper oil pan?

Has anyone installed a deeper transmission oil pan rather than an auxiliary transmission cooler? How about the PML pan at your covers.com? Thought about this option rather than splicing into the transmission oil line. I suspect it would help due to higher oil capacity and overall pan design. Air flow would not be as great perhaps than an aux cooler in the grill.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

A larger pan is no substitute for an aux cooler.
It's true, the extra capacity pan will slow the heating process, but only a tiny bit. Overheating will still occur.
An aux cooler actually prevents overheating in most situations.

i run a rock krawler deep sump heavy duty tranny pan and no skid plate on our orange JK

i run no tranny cooler and have never had a problem with my tranny over heating. not saying that the deeper pan is the reason why or if it's a combination of not having a skid trapping in all the heat like they do - just sharing what i have experienced.

Some people don't seem to overheat their automatics; myself included.
Others can overheat just driving to work.

We run the B&M tranny cooler which generally keeps it about 30 degrees cooler but we still got the hot temp ding on one particular run in which WOL was at with Nemo and he didn't get the hot oil ding. We bought the Rock Krawler deep tranny pan and I'm hoping that not only provides the protection but also with the more capacity helps with the heat as well.

I suppose it has to do with run a small volume, so less surface area, through the aux cooler.

I haven't had issues. If I am in 4hi I actually utilize the little 1 & 2 on the auto shifter, I don't give it the opportunity to search for a gear, after that the speed should be sufficient to cool with the stock cooler, as well as turning off OD. Yes/no, matters/doesn't matter? Otherwise when really slow I'll be in 4 lo.

Thank you for the input. The idea of my son stuck in the car seat with the jeep burning to the ground, while remote, scares the beejeesus out of me, he has only been on the outside for a month now.

I agree that a cover will not do as much as a transmission cooler would. I have the PML cover installed on my JK. I wanted it for the better heat dissipation and increased capacity. I have not had any overheating problems. The PML cover should help stock or with a cooler addition.
