Axle Assembly Swap - Steering Disconnect
Getting ready to swap axle assemblies on my JK.
The most difficult part of the job appears to be the pressed in tie rod joints for the steering. Where does it make the most sense to disconnect the steering, just below the steering box or at the passenger side hub?
Also, is a simple pickle fork and hammer sufficient to separate the joint?
Should get new sealed boots or if I 'm careful is it likely I can get it apart without destroying the boot?

Just disco on the axle, leave the pitman end alone. Pick-up a $15 tierod puller at the auto parts store an you won't tear the boot like you may do with a pickle fork.
Also, make sure your steering wheel is either locked or bungeed down to hold it in one spot. If you end up moving the draglink to much you could spin the steering wheel and break your clockspring. It also helps to stay in one spot to alinewith knukle for reinstall.
