Axle shaft swap difficulty level
Haven't seen a write up on an axle shaft swap as yet. Curious what the difficulty level is? One of the forum members had a set available (front 30) at an excellent price. Now need to know if i should wait and have it installed when i pay to get my lockers installed or just do it in the garage.
I know people talk about swapping a broken axle out on the trail so it can't be that bad, or can it?

It is fairly easy to do, that is once you have the u-joints in for the front shafts and the bearings pressed onto the rear shafts. For the rear I suggest getting an extra set of ABS tone rings from Dave at Northridge 4x4. Also get an extra set of axle retainer plates and nuts from the dealer. These all get put on when you take the rear shafts somewhere to press on the bearings. This way if you have to swap in your stock shaft on the trail all you have to do is slide out the bad shaft and slide in your stock shaft.
If anyone is willing, I would appreciate a write-up on replacing the shafts. Having the opportunity to read about it before the time comes makes it a lot easier if you have to do it on the trail.
I'm also looking to replace my rear shafts, I have a bent one! If there is not a write up on here, can anyone refer to somewhere else? Thanks!
It really is very easy.

i agree with dave the axle shaft are easy, the hardest part is getting the tone ring for the wheel sensors....if you want an idea on how easy just find a chiltons for a tj....they are similar....minus the tone rings........unless you are putting in a lunch box locker....i wouldn't attempt ....lunch box lockers easy......a full locker that replaces the entire carrier is difficult unless you know how to set up a ring and pinion
