Default Axle Strength of D44s

Hi All,

Planning on picking up a 4dr Rubicon, already thinking about the upgrades. Need to seek advice on the following:

1. Are the stock D44s strong enough to accomodate 37s.
2. I love the ability to engage and disengage the sway bar, with the aftermarket lift will I lose that ability, are there any aftermarket products out there that will allow me to retain this feature. I hate connecting and disconnecting.
3. Any news on the Tera Flex 6" LCG long arm suspension

Thanks in advance.

Tim

1. Really depends on the driver, terrain, tire weight, etc.. a lot of factors hear

2. You should be supplied with longer sway bar extensions., If supplied with just the rear, move the stock rear extensions to the front.

3. ???????????

1 - They are, but 37 is a big tire, depends on your type of 4 wheeling. Normally the D44 is rated at a max tire of 34-35". The Jeep D44 are tough but not the strongest D44 you can get. If it breaks upgrade it then.

2 - You will be able to retain that feature. Either longer connects will be supplied or you move the rear to the front.

3 - No clue.

Where is the weak link on this axle?

1. Is it the housing?
2. Axle shaft?

I may as well upgrade the axle shaft during re-gearing.

I live in So Cal thus most of the terrain out here is hill, dirt, snow, desert. I don't do much rock crawling. Not much of a mud guy either, hate cleaning up afterwards.

How much does the Superior Axle basic upgrade cost?

Thanks

From what I've heard it sounds like the weakest link on the 44 is the axle tubing. Several people running larger tires have bent it where it meets the inner C. Some type of bracing needs to be placed.

I've seen that on the 30's but not the 44's. I could be mistaken..

I hope you're right! I haven't even installed my 37's yet and am already concerned about it!

One of the Magazines did a comparison of Axle strengths and the JK dana 44 placed just under the Dana 60 and the TJ Dana 44 placed much weaker down the line...... I can't remember which Mag ....JP or who ... but it was fairly recent ( less than 6 months) ???? Sorry

With your wheelin styles you mentioned I would not think you would have a problem with D 44 and 37 inch.... from my recollection the TJ D 44 could handle 35 inch tires with out problems

x2 Hulkgreen. You'll be fine and don't be worried, plenty of people have 37" on here and are loving it...no worries.
