Default Axle Swap Help....

IM LOOKING TO SAVE SOME MONEY AND BUY AN "X", (INSTEAD OF THE RUBI') REPLACE THE DANA 30 FOR A DANA 44. I ALSO PLAN TO RUN 4" TERAFLEX, 37'S, DIRVE SHAFTS, UJOINTS, AND 4:88 OR 5:13 GEARS.
MY CONCERNS ARE THE LIMITED "FLEXIBILITY" OF THE RUBIS' T-CASE. ITS SO LOW THAT ONLY BEING USED IN 4LO REALLY LIMITS THE USE OF THE LOCKERS. I PLAN TO RUN LOCKERS THAT CAN BE RUN AT ANY SPEED, SO TO SPEAK . I DONT WANT TO BE LIMITED TO 4LO WITH LOCKERS. ASIDE FROM THE DOES WHAT I AM WRITING SOUND LOGICAL?
IF ANYONE HAS DONE THIS SAME THING I WAS CURIOUS THE COST OF A MOPAR DANA 44 (FRONT) AND THE LABOR INVOLVED. IVE GOT REASONABLE MECHANICAL SKILLS, COULD I DO IT ON MY OWN? IF AAM MISSING SOMETHING REGARDING THESE UPGRADES DONT HESITATE TO TELL ME..... I NEED THE HELP!

THANKS

1. The Rubicon lockers can be modified to lock in any T-case gear with little cost. Do a search for Bofer64's locker mod.

2. The Rubicon front axle swap isn't very hard either. You just have to know how to wire up a switch and relay, and turn a couple of wrenches.

Good luck.

The axle is a direct bolt in. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours with normal hand tools.

It would be a good idea to swap in a Rubi rear to get the stronger version of the 44, as well.

Ahem... nothing on a JK takes a couple of hours. Plan on devoting a weekend, just in case. At least one long day. There's a bunch of info about this on this site. Spend a few days studying everything you can find and when you find a good thread, ask a bunch of questions. Talk with people who've actually done it every chance you get.

Mostly you'll need 18's and 21's mainly as far as wrenches/sockets go, a pickle fork to separate the steering and the driveline is ??? I haven't got that far yet. An impact wrench will definitely help. Two floor jacks'll make it go much easier and you ought to consider putting in a lift at the same time. Don't forget your BFH and a decent alignment/prybar kind of thing. Along with studying axle swap, study control arm replacement, driveline replacement, alignment and brakes as you'll be doing all of that at least partially as well.

I put in a lift, including control arms, drive shaft and trackbar this weekend. I have an axle being built for me and I don't know when it'll be ready so I did the lift this wekend as a consolation. I'm not trying to talk you out of this, but be ready to put in some labor. It is a bit of work to do.

Also note, if you buy an 2008 X, you gear ratios from the factory are 3.21 or 3.73. The Rubicon axle will be 4.10. So just be prepared to do you gear mods at the same time as well if you intend to 4x4 it. The front D44 costs less than $1500, but that doesn't include the switch and harness. It's still seems like a great mod though.

You must be a slow worker then... lol jks It will take a good day or two, so it's best to plan it over the weekend like metioned above it is a rather big job, It will be alot harder if done on the floor of your garage the diffs arent the litest jpart on the jeep but don't let this put you off doing it. It's very rewarding once it's all done. Best of luck and post pic's of the converstion if you decide to go ahead with it

Shoot, it'll take me a couple of hours just to find my torque wrench and bottle opener.
