Internal sleeves can only increase axle strength by 30-40% because of their small diameter. An external sleeve will, as I understand it be closer to 100%. I'd suggest the best way to go, short of a complete new axle, is an external sleeve and use that opportunity to upgrade the bracketry from the thin factory stuff to 1/4". Trust me, you do not want your track bar to become detached from the axle coming down Red Mountain. The welds on the axle held, as poor and small as they were, but the thin metal actually fatigued and tore away.

FWIW I trussed it too, added C gussets, rolled the knuckles and replaced the LCA brackets.

A truss will do nothing to help with the main weak point on a D30 which is the size and strength on the ring and pinion gear. I would save the money and put towards a D44

Thanks everyone. I have found an axle and hopefully it will be on it's way to me this week to start playing with.

So I just bought Synergy heavy duty ball joints for my current axle. The axle I am getting only has 17,000 miles on it. Should I replace them with the new ball joints or keep in the factory ones until I need them?

its a crap shoot. I say just replace them while youve got the axle out.
