Default Back Spacing question.

I just ordered 35x12.5 nitto grapplers with crager soft 8's 16x8 with 5"bs. This is my first jeep, so I asked DTD to set me up with a package. Now i'm reading the stickie about wheels and tires and it says to have a max of 4.75, and even then I might have rubbing. Do they make my wheels with less bs??? I don't wanna use spacers.

I see they make a 16x7 with 4" bs and a 17x8 with 4.5 bs, can I use either of these?

If I were you I would see if I could go with the 17" wheel with 4.5" of backspace. Just make sure your tires are also made for 17" wheels. 4.5" of backspace will be perfect for 35" tires.

Its the WIDTH of the tires, not the diameter that dictates the BS you need for the inboard rubber to clear the wheel well components.

For a 12.5" section width tire, be it a 32, a 33, a 35....or a 37" (etc...) diameter...you start with the section width of 12.5"....and figure the larger diameter will swing in a wider arc, and therefore hit more stuff n the way through the arc, etc.

So - For the 35x12.5/16 you ORDERED already...4.5 - 4.75" BS would have been perfect...you got 5" instead, a lousy 1/4" difference, possibly close enough.

Going to a 17" rim means 17" tires, and they are more expensive than 16" tires most of the time.

Now, the Mud Grapplers are a bit wide for their size IIRC, so, the missing 1/4" of room might be something to covet later anyway...

It WOULD be a bitch to get new rims, AND need spacers too.

The reason I recommended the 17" wheels is because you said they come in 4.5" backspacing, which is ideal! I know several with the backspace of the 16" steelies that are 5" backspace have to run spacers so they don't rub....

I think the tires cost a little more for 17's vs. 16's, but I think it is worth it so you don't have to run spacers, which are not cheap BTW.

Call the place you ordered with, and if they agree to take them back if they rub and get you less BS, and or send you spacers to MAKE them not rub, etc ...let them come....or see if they shipped yet/can CHANGE the order, etc..(What ever solves the problem for you w/o spending more $...)

If they will not agree, cancel the order....refuse to accept it if it comes, etc....and make a new order when you've been credited, etc.

They are pretty nice at DTD - you probably will have NO problems...IE: They will promise it won't rub/The BS is fne, etc...or fix the issue.

Good Luck!
