Default Backspace question

The Poison Spyder beadlocks only come with 3.5 inches of backspace. Will I need spacers to run these wheels?

I would say no,I'm running 4" backspacing with no issues. The factory wheels I believe are 6" or so (someone please chime in if I'm incorrect). You would only need spacers if you were running big tires on stock wheels or if the backspacing was more than that of the stock wheels. With 3.5" backspacing it just means the wheels will stick out farther past the flares.

Thanks Scooter. I'm new to this Jeep thing and there is much to learn.

No you need spacers with higher backspacing, say over 5.25" (stock wheels have 6.25"). The consensus is 4.5" or less, but I'm running wheels with 5.25" with no problems.

Just the opposite, the wheels might stick out too much (less BACK SPACE than the original wheels). Make sure your wheel and tire combo doesn't break any laws where you're located. Where I live, there are laws that say the wheels cannot stick out past the flares (although mine might stick out 1/4" or so -- hopefully not enough to get harrased by the cops). :-)

Back spacing has little to do with wheel size, unless you are running wheels that are smaller than 16". Tire size is effected much more than wheel size by back spacing. What size tires are you going to run? What lift? What Bumpers? Give your whole configuration, and I'm sure you'll get accurate info. from the oracle of JK truth, I mean JK forum.

Thanks for the info. My plan is a Black Diamond 3" lift, 35" Pro Comp m/t's, with the Poison Spyder beadlocks. I'll also be adding probably the Teraflex front and rear bumpers and a winch. I live in AZ so I'll check the state laws and post what I find out.

That should be fine, they may stick out a little, but I wouldn't think that you shouldn't have any clearance problems. I like those wheels by the way. What kind of price have you found on them and what size are you looking at?

4 Wheel Parts has them listed in their catalog for $342 but they offer a 10% discount military discount. Still pricey but I plan on keeping the jeep for many years so it all evens out. I'll run 35's now and probably upgrade to 37's in a few years as my driving ability improves.
