Default backspacing problems--please help!!

Heres the deal, I put on MB wheels Chaos 5s with 315/70/17 last night. Tire place called me and said that I am rubbing at full turn...

When I ordered the rims, I specifically asked to ensure that there is no rubbing. I bought the 4.5" backspace (18 offset is what he told me is right). I also noted that I did not want spacers at all.

what backspacing should I have for this setup to clear lower control arms at full turn?? What is the minimum spacer I could use to clear?

To add insult to injury, I am moving today, so am on a tight rope for time. Thank you for any help.

You have a couple of options. Trade the rims back and gets some with about 3.75 back spacing, get 1.5" wheel spacers, add washers to the steer stops.

I'm pretty sure he is rubbing on the lower control arms. He is asking what does he need to do to clear the LCA

Most everyone uses 4.5 inches of backspacing, so that shouldn't be an issue. If there is some minor rubbing on the control arms at full steering lock, that's not really a big deal. You can use a wheel spacer (IMO, a bad idea) or a wheel with less backspacing to push the wheel/tire outward but you risk causing rubbing somewhere else. The call you recieved was probably just to cover their butts. You see, "fits" means different things to different people. To a lot of folks, "fits" means there is an inch of clearace between the tire and the vehicle throughout the suspension and steering cycle. To others, "fits" means you only have to trim a little plastic or metal an only have minor rubbing. I know that if I purchase tires and don't have to do at least a little trimming, I find myself wondering if I should have went with a larger size. LOL

Yes its the lower control arm that the rear of the tire hits, just a little though... -18 is right (typing on phone!!)

I think im gonna grab it and go as is, bc i understand that the -18 is the most "dished out" that they have in that model. I plan to trim fenders at some point, just wanted to make sure that i wouldnt mess up alignment or something if i caught control arm...

I think just being wary of this is the main issue that im seeing... Tire installer was also concerned with a ring for the rims (cant remember name) but rim dealer says they are hub centric and not necessary...

Ended up looking good though...

I was hoping to mount spare on factory mount but not long enough lugs... Any recommendations?? Weight is very similar between new rims and factory tire weight...

Any fixes for this other than a new bumper with spare tire carrier? Was hoping to use factory stuff until more $$$ allow

Also thanks for the advice/feedback, i love this forum!!
