Default backspacing question

Hey there,
quick question as I'm not too familiar with back spacing and spacers. I have a Rubi on order, but am replacing the stock wheels with a set of Hulk wheels
(17 x 7.5), and putting on some hankook 33's. Will I need wheel spacers or backspacing with a stock suspension?
Thanks again.

I tried searching but just made me more confused.

Backspacing is the measurement from the wheel mounting hub surface to the inside (back) edge of the wheel. stock JK's have alot of backspacing. I would recommend about 4.5" minimum to 5" on a stock vehicle.

Hmmm, what about wheel spacers?
I will be putting on 33's and I want to keep either the stock height for now, or possibly a daystar 1.75" lift on hulk wheels. Do I need a 1.5" wheel spacer to prevent rubbing or is that simply for a wider stance?

Thanks again

You'll probably rub when your off-road if you're using stock wheels (6.75" backspacing). You should be fine for daily driving.

If you plan on doing some wheeling, the $200 for the 1.5" spacers are worth it for the peace of mind. It's probably just my imagination, but I think my JK corners more smoothly with the spacers.

ok, so I assume the Hulk wheels are the same 6.75"?

Also if I decide to go with 35's, is the 1.5" still sufficient or do I need more?

I'm sorry, I don't know what the backspacing is on the Hulk wheels....though I doubt it is the same as the stock rims. I had missed that in your post before about running the Hulk wheels.

I had a long conversation with Teraflex guy...he seemed pretty confident that 4.5" backspacing would eliminate any rubbing problems with up to 35" tires.

You need 4.5" of back spacing. If you use the stock wheels than a 1.5" spacer is good. Without knowing what backspacing the wheels you are looking at I could not tell you how much of a spacer you'll need. Just make sure it's 4.5. Preferably get a wheel with 4.5 of back spacing. Then you won't need the spacer. Good luck.

Default Reviving a long-dead thread

Hey guys, I'm stumped. Evidently I'm not the sharpest bowling ball around, I can't figure out this backspacing thing, and I'm trying to hurry because I've found an opportunity to buy some wheels and tires I really like at a good price.

The wheels are 4.5" backspacing, but to make them fit I'll have to run adapters, either 1.375" or 1.25" thick, from what I can find. Will that a) rub all the time, or b) be way too far out of my bushwackers and look like clown shoes? These will come with 35s and I'll have a 2.5" lift installed soon.

Thanks,
Joe
