Default Backspacing Question

Ok people I need some help. I am going to military theme my 13 JKUR commando green. I currently have 17" x 9 Fuel Boosts with trail grappler 35's. I want to either have some Stockton wheels made In a 17" and keep my tires with only 2000 miles on them and sell the Fuels or have some 15" wheels made and get new tires.

My question is what back spacing would be needed for the 17" and what back spacing would be needed for the 15" if they are different? Also, what width should I go with if I decide to go with the 15" rim? Thanks for the help in advance.

not so sure about the 15s, but 4.5" of BS seems to be the magic number for the JK w/ 17s.

Another choice would be wheel vintiques smoothie from summit racing. I am thinking of going with 16x8 with 4.5 backspace.

Yeah, I'm hesitant on the 15's myself, and thanks for the info on the 4.5". If I go with the Stockton wheels they have to make them and I wasn't sure what backspacing is needed. Thanks

I'll definitely look into those too, might be cheaper than the Stocktons. Thanks

are the stockton wheels aluminum alloy or steel? I've never really ahd the desire to go down to a 15, but I remember reading on a few forums that some 15s will fit over the rotor/caliper and some will not. Just something you may want to research a bit. I'll see if I can find that thread for you later. I'm pretty sure i read it on the JF

That's usually the problem with the 15's is the rotor/calipers. I got a quote from Stockton of about 200 per wheel for the 17's. Not sure what they are made out of, I called them back prior to reading this because a buddy of mine made a good point at how heavy solid wheels can get. They put me on hold and I got frustrated and hung up. I'm going to call them back later to see what material they are made out of and what the weights are. I think my curren Fuel wheels are about 35lbs each.

If you think coilovers will ever be in your future, get a wheel with 3.5" backspacing or 4.5" backspacing with wheel spacers. A 15" rim will let you buy cheaper tires, but they will cause clearance issues with some suspension lifts and big brake kits.

Also remember that the lower the backspacing number, the more stress will be put on your inner C's. Make sure you get gussets to beef them up or they will bend, especially with larger tires.
