Default Backspacing Question

This may be a stupid question but I am a bit perplexed. I'm reading that if I am going to put a 3" or higher lift on my JK I will need a wheel that has a 4.5 to 4.75 backspacing. My question is, with a 5" backspacing work too? I want to put 18x9 XD Enduro wheels on my JK and they say the BS is 5".

This is from the modified forum every question a newbie might have..

Q: What back spacing will I need on my wheels in order to clear 12.50 wide tires?
A: I would recommend that you do not exceed 4.75" of back spacing and even at that, you may still have some minor rubbing up front at a full turn. Also, I would recommend that you do not go any less than 3.75" as anything less would cause your tires to stick out very far past the fender flares. Any back spacing within this range should work out great.

So to your answer if you are running 12.50" wide tires no I dont think it will work without spacers

Yeah I read the newbie post but if you look at bOl-SAK's jeep he's running the 18x9 Enduros with the 5" backspacing. He said he doesn't have problems with them but I was wondering if any of you "specialists" could give me more specific technical information. I may be answering my own question but if I put a 1" spacer on it wouldn't 4" backspacing make the tires stick out too far?
