Default backspacing question?

i have a rock krawler 2.5 x factor lift & synergy steering components for my 2014 2 door jk.. anyways I'm about to order wheels and I'm trying to figure out what the **** i need to back spacing on wheels because i don't fully under stand how it works.. i wanted to run 15" raceline monster beadlocks with 35s the wheels have 3.5" inch backspacing... on the rock krawler site it recommends 4.5 ....

soo can someone explain how this works because the way i understand it is.. if there is less back spacing your wheels would stick out further.. which should make the tires further away from rubbing on anything..?!

A higher number is further tucked into the wheel well. A lower number moves the tire further out of the wheel well.

Stock backspacing is around 6". A 4.5" BS is a standard recommendation for a 35x12.50 tire. A 3.5" is fairly standard for a 37" tire, since it needs to be further out to keep from rubbing stuff.

Since 15" rims can have clearance issues on the brakes, a 4" BS or less is recommended. A 3.75 or less would be better.

Your understanding is correct.

Hey guys,
Are there certain 15" rims that do not fit on a jk? I was looking at 15x8 procomp 52 rock crawler with 3.75" bs. And Cragar 342 15x8 4" bs. I'm planning in running 35 12.5.
Thanks

There are some that don't work but I don't know which ones. Procomp would be able to tell you. I think. Some don't because of brakes on front end or so I have heard. I do know that the add on big brake kits will not work with 15s at all.

It's a roll of the dice. There seem to be some variations in the calipers straight from the factory. From a thread a while back, a set of rims was moved from one JK to another. They did not rub one the first, two of the four rubbed on the second JK. Clear as mud, huh.

Alloy tends to be better than steel, and 3.75" would be better than 4".

You want some type of a guarantee, check these:
