Default Bad Idea?

I've been looking for rocker guards for my JKU. I've been really picky. I stumbled across Poly Performance's rocker guards and really liked the look and strength.
Then I started looking at the installation instructions. In order to install the guards, the bottom inch or so of the body mount must be cut off.
Does that seem like a bad idea to anyone else?
I'm not an engineer, but it seems like the metal pieces that hold your body onto the frame should not be tampered with. Anyhow, what are your thoughts?

Here's a link to the sliders and instructions. Poly Performance JEEP/TRUCK & BUGGY :: Suspension :: Suspension & Lift Kits :: Jeep Suspension Systems :: 2007-Current Jeep JK Wrangler Suspension Systems :: Synergy Suspension :: Synergy Suspension Jeep JK Rocker Guard Set - 4X4 Off-Road Parts, JK S

I wouldn't be wild about the idea. They mount very similar to my Pure Jeep rails. You need to be sure you LOVE them before you install them though because its hard to overcome all the holes you drill in the body.

I agree with you. I really like the look of those rocker guards but preferences change over time.
I found some ACE Rock guards that are weld on or there's a bolt on version as well. I may go with them instead. No drilling into the body, I like that.

I prefer frame mounted rather than anything even remotely touching the body. Sliders like LOD that bolt to the frame or the Evo's which weld to the frame will be stronger than anything body mounted and you shouldn't have to worry about body damage.

I've beat on mine a few times and pivoted off of them and they've held up like champs. There's a lot more to the PJ ones than other body mounted rails. The PSC and Synergy look pretty stout as well.
