Default Banks Ram Air

Dont want to start another flame war over why its stupid to buy a CAI for a JK but i was wondering if anyone had any experience with it yet. All my street rodder friends say if banks promises 20 HP thats what your going to get. I cant find any realy DYNO results on it or what would make it better then the other ones but like i said.

I have a 6 speed and love my 4.10 and mileage. I already have a gibson exhaust but was thinking about a flashpaq and the banks system to give me that extra punch rather then dropping $1500 for new gears i can spend $600 for 40 more HP. With a flashpaq ive read gains up to 20 hp? so if you got the Banks wouldnt that push you at least to 40 bolt on HP?

Anybody??

aFe claims their CAI+throttle body spacer+exhaust provides 53 ft-lbs and 10HP, so that may help put it in perspective. The torque gain, which is what really matters, IMO is hard to believe.

If you don't have the Flashpaq, I would suggest starting with that and then deciding if you still want the CAI. That way you can feel the contributions of each.

BTW, the Flashpaq manual claims that it is compatible with CAI systems.

I really like my banks I got about a 1.5 mpg gain & my throttle response is a little better, but that could also be the aev procal also. Also the noise it makes the engine sound meaner.

I have both the Banks CAI and Monster exhaust. Love them both. Mean sounding coming in and going out. I can't say I've noticed any mileage improvements however. Because the engine is snappier, I'm on the gas more.

Default Dyno proven gains

Respectfully guys, anytime someone spends the money for a performance upgrade, if they are really interested in the legit gain of something it needs to be Dyno'ed. It is human nature to hear a throatier sound or to hear w whistle from an intake and think to themselves "wow that $XXX was really worth it i can feel the power difference" its a phenominon we refer to in the racing world as the butt dyno. In all seriousnes there is no way that out of bolting on an intake you are going to see HP increases in the 40+ range 2-5 HP possible, maybe even 10-15 with the rest of your breathing system opened up (ie. headers exhaust TBS) but i think as adults who understand motors we all have to soundly agree that without a graph its just talk.

But on a second not DAMN will they make a JK sound awesome!

Agreed. All manufacturer claims, especially in the aftermarket, are FLUFF. All of these claims never have a dyno to prove it Seems fishy doesn't it?

The only way to believe in any gains is to dyno before and after the upgrade. There is also no way you will get 50+tq from just opening up the breathing system on a naturally aspirated motor.

Shopping around for a CAI or exhaust mods, don't worry yourselves with power or mileage gains. Just buy a quality system that requires as little maintenance as possible, and has an aesthetic to your liking.
