Default Basically lft question

I am deciding what I'm going to do to my 08 JK X this summer.

I am looking to put a lift on and want to install 35's but want enough room for 37's to clear if i choose

So question is what lift do you recommend? What extras need to be done to do it right?

Plans are 5:38 gears (i believe)
35x12.50x17 wheels
Nitro mud grapplers

Please give your opinion and be detailed please
Thanks in advance

You can do a 3 inch coil lift with extended bumpstops and flat flares and you should be able to run 37s. You probably won't get a ton of articulation though.

Oh and cut, or bend your pinch seams.

I have the TF 2.5 coil lift, it easily fits 35s. I think w/ a 1" BL or coil spacers I could squeeze in small 37s. Oh, I'm w/ you on liking full fenders. Go to the show and tell section and look thru all the 37 tire posts and see what everyone else is running. If you like someone's set-up, PM them about specifics...

I had a similar dilemma. I have an '08 Sahara. I wanted to lift it, definately 35's...but wanted to have the options for 37's. I spent a lot of time looking around..asking questions etc.
There are alot of things to keep in mind. How much do you want to spend? How much you can spend? Your usage, etc.
Everyone will have there opinion, but if you do your research you can set things up in your budget for your type of usage.
For me personally...my Jk is on the road most of the time, it is a 6spd. I wanted a complete lift that would give me full adjustability so I can maintain ride and handling.
I ended up going with Trailmaster's 4.5" kit with driveshafts and shocks. It is a complete kit, has everything you need. Rides and handles great at a price that doesn't break the bank. Plus because of the longer control arms your rear tire is centered nicely in your rear wheel well and you won't have to do any trimming to run 37's.
I have a dana 30 up front. I ended up beeefing that up with heavy duty ball joints, C-gussets and used 4.88 gears and ARB diff covers. I went with 4.88's because I have a 6spd and I'm not rock crawling, to me...it seemed it would be better for road use and low enough for most offroading when needed.
I just ordered my 37's. I originally was planning on KM2s but because use controls necessity I ended up ordering Falken's Wildpeak AT in the 37-12.50-17. As most have said...not the most aggressive looking tire but does very well offroad and most importantly...handles road use very well.
Anyway...good luck in your decisions.

x2....The Dirtman always has great advice. The Teraflex 2.5 coil lift will get 35's on there easily. So will the Rough Country, Full Traction and Rock Crawler. I run the Rust'ys lift.

When you want 37s, research before jumping. Flat flares and bump stops will get them on, but driveline and axle work will need done to do it right. The D30 will last depending on what type of wheel'n you'll do.

Good luck.

I went with 3.5" Clayton Off road kit and Woody Driveshafts. 35s fit easy, with flat fender flares and a little trimming 37s would fit. I think the 4.5" kit would be a better option for 37s. Then the questions is how to gear the axles for 35s or 37s. I would want different gears for 37s vs 35s.

Run a 3" kit on 35's. When you decide to run 37's add flat fenders and longer bump stops. Its really that simple.

I've ran 5.13's with 35's and now my 37's. I'm very happy with this set up. Our 3" premium plus kit is a great kit to start out with.

One thing I've always wondered on this subject is what is considered "hard wheeling"...I don't really do mud, but I do rocks, steep inclines, creek crossings and on ocassion, snow up north. I have stock axles, (d30 front, 44 rear) both open on 3.21's...I've left it this way even though it sucks on rocks for the sole purpose of NOT breaking anything.

Soon I'll be upgrading to a 44 front and 37's, but can anyone with this setup who HAS broken something post what the specifics were?? The more I read the more nervous I am about breaking something in the front end. I have a trip to URE this weekend and may stay of Daniels (again...) b/c I'm scared to break something and not be able to make it home.
