Battery options - Odyssey worth it?
Hi everyone, it is time to replace the battery. Its an '08 and woke to the Jeep barely able to start. I've searched around on the forum and the optima seems to still have a decent following and the die hard platinum seems to be popular.
I currently have aux lights on the windshield and a cb. Down the road I plan to add more lights, winch and possibly more accs so it is probably smarter to go with a deep cycle battery.
I've had the optima yellow top in the past in my car about 5 years ago, while it 'performed' good ... I did have to get it replaced under warranty once and then it died again shortly after there borderline crappy warranty as well. So rather uneasy going with an optima again, especially with the cost.
I'm in canada so the die hards from Sears arnt available. Currently the cost of a normal battery is 130, the optima is $250 and the odyssey is $330. I haven't found a single bad thing about the odyssey but it is $330 here ...
Is it worth going with the odyssey? I don't want to get stranded on a trail in the future with a battery that can't handle a winch but at the same time $330 is a pretty big pill to swallow battery ...
Any advice?
Thanks

I use a ballastic battery setup. They are very small lightweight dry cell batteries. You can actually fit two batteries in your normal battery box, three if you are creative a bit. Some wire and a marine selector switch and you have a nice custom power option. These were orginally made for motorcycles and powersport applications for harsh enviorments and racing. You can get a 500 CCA deep cycle battery that weighs only 3 and a half pounds that is small enough to fit in your glove box if you wanted. These are not direct replacement type batteries, but are a reliable solution with some creativity for emergency power and high load capacity out of a very small space.
