Default BDS, Teraflex, Clayton, OME

All the different stories...what is up with the following lift brands?

BDS - I hear only good things from dealers and a friend of mine with a monster truck. Nothing on the forums, for the most part.

Teraflex - I hear all kinds of people putting these on from the forums, but then the local dealers putting them down as not good and talking about DW issues, bad shocks, etc. I thought that the 2.5 coil lift was going to be my choice for putting 35's, but now I hear that people are still rubbing and I need to do new driveshafts anyway so why bother going this short, right? One dealer said that Teraflex stuff was made by BDS, but lower grade - is this true?
Is there some kind of crazy dealer incentive for these guys to push BDS and put Teraflex down? Is there truth to the spring and shock setup not being well-matched?

Clayton - I don't know much about them, but there seems to be a little growing use of them?

OME - There focus seems to be springs, right? Should you take their spring/shock setup and add components from others to make up a final build? Piecemeal?

Perhaps I should just put 33x12.5's and wait on the lift until there is more clarity?

well tera isnt made by bds. i believe bds is made by superlift. tera has more death wobble reports because of the large amount of people running their lifts. They probably sell more lifts than most other companies. David at northridge sells an OME kit with everything you needs if you choose to go that way. if you want to run 35's and be certain you will have no rubbing do a tera 3" coil lift.

I've never heard of teraflex's 2.5 coil lift having rubbing issues..maybe i'm not looking hard enough

I would check out the 3" teraflex lift, if you're going to replace your driveshafts anyway. It's got great stance and i haven't heard one complaint about it. Also teraflex's customer support is second to none. You can always upgrade the flexarms as you go for more flex. Just my

BDS isn't made by Superlift and it's a great company with a life time warranty and no questions ask. BDS makes Zone which is the same without the warranty.

TF is good and I agree that the DW issues are most likely that more people are running them. If you go with OME then I'd get the springs and shocks, both are top notch.

haha thats all some funny stuff right there, most dealers/shops have deals with certain lift companies and will push those brands as they get a better deal on them so they make more money installing that lift. When I got my JK back in sept 07 there was one shop by me that ONLY installed BDS lifts and put down every other company as inferior, would I believe them? HELL NO

If a shop won't install the lift YOU WANT I wouldnt do business with them. Do you shop for a TV and buy the one the saleman wants you to or do you buy the one you want?

Read up on the forums as much as you can, ask questions and then make your decision. Death wobble issues are NOT caused by the lift springs or shocks either so its not one lift over the other having more DW problems.

my local shop tried to pressure m into bds as well. I didnt think it was a bad lift i jsut didnt want cam bolts. It was cheaper for me to get my own track bars and some springs.

I've heard nothing but great comments about Teraflex and chose to run their 6" long arm lift after researching the many brands out there. No fitment issues and great customer service!

you know it makes me wonder if its some BDS thing that makes a lot of these shops sign some exclusive deal, that or they just get them dirt cheap

TeraFlex is made by TeraFlex. Zone is BDS's lower grade stepchild. BDS may make some good truck kits but TeraFlex kits are far better components and design. Take a look at our adj.control arms vs. theirs (not alot of flex there). DW can happen with any lift kit that hasn't been setup right. Even a bone stock JK will get DW. Not sure where they are getting the info on bad shocks. I have 20,000 on mine so far and no issues. Rubbing issues happen when swaybar links are installed wrong or wheel spacers aren't used.

I will be the first to admit I am a TF fan, but in regards to the other lifts I dont have much bad to say. BDS, ZONE, OME, Etc. all seem to have quality components and fair prices. The only kit I have even heard of having regular problems is Rough Country, and frankly at this point I think they just got a bad bunch of springs. I choose TeraFlex because for the kit I got I felt I got the best engineering and ABSOLUTELY GREAT customer service. Any of the other lifts probably would have served me just as well, but to me customer service is a lost art that few organizations have left and I am willing to pay a little extra for it!
