Powerdercoating is useless. I would have it line X'd at the least if not a full sandblast and real paint job as well. I've owned several aftermarket items that were all powdercoated, all showed rust after one winter.

I recommend Rustoleum Bed-Liner in a rattle can ... I used it on my bare steel front and rear bumpers. It works great .. and any trail damage is a simple fix by just sanding smooth and respraying the area.

TIP: DO NOT PRIME THE BARE STEEL. Just sand with 120 Grit and Spray the Bed Liner. I Primed my front bumper and didn't prime the rear. The un-primed bumper is more durable and easier to touch-up.

Hey, forgive me, who is this? We did not make it and and Northwoods is up in the air at this point. Amber is graduating this summer and things are in a major state of flux. I still really want to do that run though! I also see that the trails only option is sold out for Northwoods, was planning on going that route this time. I'm still thinking we'll make it though. Did you make it to MCcaslin?

If the bumper is new I think i'd just get it line X'd but i'd ask the line X people what they recommend. I would think the Line X would seal it enough to keep it from rusting inside.

Don't worry about removing all of the powder coat. Just make sure you sand it first so it has a good tooth for the bedliner to grab to.

Im just some random guy that lives over in Stevens Point. I saw that you are in GB and I was wondering if you ever wheel at Mccaslin. I have some buddies with XJ's that frequently head up that way. I have yet to go. I want to get a bit more armor and a decent set of tires before I go play on the rocks and more technical trails.
