Bedlining over powdercoat
Before I put my Mopar bumpers from my 2011 onto my 12 I was thinking about having them Rhino Lined but the Rhino dealer said they would have to sand the powder coat off first at 45 per hour and then each bumper would be $250.00 each. He told me I could sand myself but if the powder coat isn't peeling why wouldn't the Rhino stick? There are just a few spots of rust coming out in the welds and I figured I could treat those before lining. Since Rhino won't do it without sanding them first is there a good can liner I could use without having to sand? I don't care to rough the powder coat up first but you would think it would make for a good primer/base and give even better rust protection. I am no means a paint expert so ff anyone has any ideas please shoot them my way.
I've had everything line-Xed they scratch up the powder coat and go right over it. I've had no issues and it is guaranteed for life. My RR XHD stubby, hoop and e-disco skid was around $150-$200 total.
I use duplicolor to paint my p&h shock bumper every time I get a new farm truck. They come painted I just scuff and paint. It makes a good none skid surface and stands up to rock chips better. It's made it for 3 yrs and still looks great. It's also easy to touch up. Just did my hinges just taped them off
just scuff and go right over it, depending on your budget there's plenty of options.
Duplicolor Bedliner = cheapest (easy touch up)
eBay raptor Liner = cheap
Line X = not cheap {but strongest.}

So it doesn't have to be sanded down to bare metal? I wonder if he was just telling me that to make a few extra bucks knowing that I would never see under the Rhino anyways. Plus I think $250.00 per bumper is too much for what I am wanting done. I have had beds done for $375 over the rails! I would really like to do the Line-X but the closest one to me is about an hour away. I guess I could take the bumpers and drop them off then go pick them up the next day or something. Problem with that though is the way my work schedule is especially this time of year. Does the Line-X have any fading issues or do they have a protective you can buy as an add on? I just think if I spend $1500 in bumpers that they should look good for the basic life of the Jeep and if I have to spend a little money to protect my investment I think it is money well spent. If anyone has any pics of the 3 posted above please post. I would like to see the looks/textures.
A few pics clean and new. A few pics of wheeling. If it gets really muddy I take simple green and a stiff bristled brush to the line-x and it looks like new. Everything you see in the pictures that is black and metal is line-Xed. It is worth the drive. as stated above lifetime warranty.
They only scuffed the powder coat. I think your getting hijacked about having to be bare metal.
