Default Beginning build questions....

Hey there JK'ers. Just picked up my new Sahara Unlimted JK. Would like to know thoughts on Trailmasters 5 inch lift for 37's? Would a 1 inch bodylift be needed for just a bit extra and not looked stuffed in the wells?

Also, what sort of gearing would be needed for everyday driving to turn the 37's an get closer to stock mileage?! 4.88's etc....? What RPM should or would it be at cruising down the highway with 4.88's? 5.13's?!

Thanks in advance for anyone's input!

With the 37's i would roll with 5.13's. Someone did a complete write up a while back with the RPM listings of the different tire/gear configurations. It would probably come up via search. I think your JK would look great with just the 5" coupled with the 37's, but hey...its your preference. Post pics when u get done...

That would be Red Rock Jk

here is his thread https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/modified-jk-tech-2/5-13-gears-automatic-35-tires-report-observations-8716/

its on 35" tires tho ..smart guy.
i found this on.superioraxle.com

The scale below is based on 65 mph and a 1 to 1 gear ratio with a manual transmission in 4th gear. With an automatic transmission, your RPMs will be higher due to slippage in the transmission and the torque converter. GREEN equals best gas mileage but poor performance. BLUE equals good gas mileage and good power. RED equals poor gas mileage and best performance. Tire sizes are listed in the left hand column and gear ratio is listed in the top row.

So far it looks like 4.11 would do best than 5.13's...illl test that with an airintake when i get my jeep...gosh i cant wait anylonger!!!

well there's a bright side to this atleast...ill allready have the 4.10's so ill be able to test it out weather i want to or not, but someone here can allrady provide Results

Thanks a bunch dude, thats a great chart and its a toss up between 4.88's and 5.13's?! Im on the highway a bit and I think the 4.88's would be better.

Another question for youse. Again, thank you in advance for everyone's time. With a 5 inch lift (Trailmaster i think I will go with, more for looks than offroading), will I different driveshafts?!

Cheers,

N8!

for money wise... just go with a 3" lift, thats more than enough with 35"s...let alone 37"s lol

get a good air intake and exaust and you will improve mileage,

look at it this way a 5" lift will set you back....$2,000? and new gears plus installation about $1,000 .... starting to see it?

a 3" lift with installation would be about $1k, save onn the gears and get air intake and exaust...$500
