Default Best gear ratio for 33" tires

I have a Wrangler X with the automatic (rather unfortunate side effect of getting a spectacular deal on a used Jeep, the only thing it didn't have that I wanted was a manual). That being said, I just put the TF leveling kit, and some 33 inch tires on there. It is not absolutely terrible to drive, but the 3.73's are just barely adequate. I wonder if anyone has bothered to re-gear for 33s on an X, and what gear ratio they used. I would also like to have a happy medium between the 33s and possible 35s in the future, but that is FAR into the future. Thanks for your help!

Do you plan on moving up to 35's any time in the semi near future?

If you open the DriveTrain FAQ's (nailed right at the top of this modified section!!!) you'll find a great RPM chart. Plug in some numbers and see what you come up with. And be sure to use the 'actual' tire height, not the mfg's listed height!

Just an opinion, but I would gear for 35's and not 33's...

35s are only a small possibility in the distant future... more likely I will stick with 33s while this is a dd, and then go to some full size axles and much larger tires, when I can afford a second vehicle

I agree. And I have them with a 6-speed and 32's.

Hard to decide either way....I"m going 5.13s, because mine is a DD, but with the roof rack, winch, bumpers, wheels/tires, etc it's bogged it down a bit with my 4.10s. I'd like to go 35s in the future also so...

Do it right the first time and go 5.13s. If you ever go 35s, or start bolting a bunch of stuff on the jeep you won't need to regear again.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I've narrowed my decision down to either 4.88 or 5.13. Now to find a good shop in CO to do the work, for a reasonable price!

Yeah right, I've heard that before. I give you 6 months till you're sporting 35s.
