Best size of rim to get
As posted earlier you won't be able to go bigger than 35's with these wheels in 15. I will be going 35's for my next set. When I go 35's I will add heavier springs because of my winch and bumper weight along with a 2" BDL body lift. This will give me the extra clearance without raising my CG too much. This kit also relocates your rear bumper so it eliminates the ugly gap. I plan on building a back bumper but it may be a while before I get it done. It really never ends.......

I was looking into this as well lately and I really like the look of a 35 on a 16" rim, as said as well the price for the tire is also less and the little extra sidewall will help out for offroading
I'll only be going to 33's, nothing bigger. I would like a nice spring lift but everything seems to add more hight than i really want. I'd only want about 2" where most everyone is saying that 3" is typical from most of these kits. So i'll probably hold off on a lift for now.
I'm in a similar frame of mind in regards to lift and tires. I also know a lift of any kind is going to be a fight with the dealer when/if I need a repair due to a real warranty issue so I swapped out my stock X springs for Stock Unlimited Rubi springs. It gave me better than an inch in the front and just over an inch and a half in the back. I'm planning on a 3/4" spacer in the front to level it out, Rubi shocks and a BL. Should be able to run 33's all day long and it's really inexpensive to do.

If you are looking for a generalized rule of thumb this is the way to go. I posted this in a different thread a while back.
I think there is a rule of thumb to be told here. I came up with this so the side wall remains functional but doesnt turn into a rubber band. This gives you an idea of keeping the tread on the rocks and not the sidewall.
If you have a particular rim size you like take that diameter and double it. That will be the smallest tire you should run on that rim. that is how I came to my choice.
Wheel Diam. X 2 = Smallest Tire size allowed.
15 = 30
16 = 32
17 = 34
18 = 36
20 = 40

It sounds like you plan to use 33" tires. If you plan to use your JK as a daily driver go with 17" rims. You can go a little smaller if you plan to go wheeling very often. As for width, go with 9" as a happy medium.
Hope this helps.

16x8 on mine. ran 33x12.50's. If your wheeling you do not want the wider wheel. I'm running 37x13.50's now. No problems. I have 5" backspacing. I may push them out another inch now with the wider tires.
For you with the 16x8 in Pro Comp will have 4.5" backspacing. Depending on lift and tires you may have rubbing issues in the rear on the flares. I've seen this first hand. With the 5" backspacing the tires were inward enough to stuff inside of the flare. Of coarse that problem can be fixed by cutting the flares up a bit.
As for wheel tire choices. some 15's do have problems. But, with 3.75" or less backspacing they seem to be fine. Your tires will stick out a lot. The smaller the rim the less expensive the tires will be.
