I know the idea of skid plates is to protect certain parts of the underside, but wouldn't there be an additional benefit of aerodynamics if the complete underbody (as much as possible) was covered? Obviously weight would be an issue, so the plates would need to be aluminum or a certain kind of light weight / high strength steel.

We normally mod our Jeeps to improve the off-road abilities, but the drawback is that aerodynamics normally suffers. Since I use mine as a daily driver, any improvement to aerodynamics is a plus, especially if I'd be protecting the undercarriage as well. Whether or not making the underside more aerodynamic would show a benefit, I don't know, but I would think any bit would help.

I have and like the evo protec. I like the fact that u can buy what pieces you need vs just a big sheet that covers all.

my biggest complaint about the protek skids are the exposed heads on the bolts. It's a bitch to get the socket on some of them because the rocks have mutilated them. I need to look into some sort of sleeve that will surround the bolt to protect it.

Can't beat Rock Hard. 1/4" steel, great fit and easy install. I have everyone they make. Bulletproof!

I also prefer the rockhard 4x4 skid. Great fit, finish, and most importantly to me, it doesn't bolt to the engine. They also include tapered bolt covers to protect the bolt heads from scraping off.
