Default Best Upgrade for Mud

So this summer I plan on doing some work to my JK and after last nights trip of getting stuck about 4 times in the soft stuff I need to do something to help me get through the mud better. I was talking with one of the guys out there telling him I was going to get some mud terrain tires and swap out of my nitto terras but he told me to save my money and get lockers first? Does this sound like a better upgrade than m/t tires or do yall know of someting out there even better than any of this? There was a beastly J20 and J10 out there having no problem and they spent a bit of time pulling me out.
thanks for any imput!

They are both significant upgrades! I always ran mean M/Ts and never got stuck with open diffs. And this is with 3 jeeps. *knocks on wood*

However, one of my buddies has lockers on his TJ and he wheeled right alongside me with BALD tires!

Lockers + Aggressive M/T = the best!

I would get the M/T first. Since lockers are very pricey and can put more stress on your axleshafts depending on what tire size you are running.

I completely agree! I would get some good MT's first and get to know the limits of your Jeep. Once you have that down Lock it up and you'll be much better off.

You wouldn't NEED lockers, but they would give you one more chance to get out of the mud before you have to go slogging through it to hook up a winch I would start with fresh M/T's as well and go from there. Of course I don't live in Florida, there are ALOT of rocks around here, so the tires and the traction they provide were an easy first choice for me. Maybe it is better to have lockers first if your average outing is mud playin'?

I love the mud. We play over here in north east Florida all the time and I would definitly say tires first. With my BFG MT's I really have to look for a place to get stuck. I have a LSD in the rear and open up front and it will pull through some pretty deep sticky holes. (That sounded dirtier than I meant it to). When all else fails speed and RPM's are your friend.

I do alot of mudding and to be honest I dont really use my lockers that much really I lock the rear only when I do use a locker and that is just in really deep ruts where I know my diff is going to be on the ground it will make it so the all power doesnt get trasfered to a wheel that may not be touching the ground. But honestly the BLD's work very well in the mud so definatly get some good tires and a winch that is where you should start for mud
