Bestop FlexaTrunk in a 2011

The '11's have plastic trim around the base of the sport bar. It consume space vital to installing a Bestop FlexaTrunk..
Options are to remove the plastic, or build a custom security trunk... I already have a FlexaTrunk so I am thinking of removing the plastic. But before I tear into it, I am curious how far down the carpet goes.
Other option is to scavange what I can from the FlexaTrunk and build around it.
I need storage security for when the seat is both up and for a larger space when the seat is down or out. FlexaTrunk would be best option.
Anyone tackle a similar project? I've scoured the write-ups and can't find anything that really does what I need
