So..........No one has this setup? Kind of curious if this works well myself. My local shop said that they don't like the brackets mounting to the stock tire carrier. He said that the thread inserts are holding a lot of weight, if you start loading the tray up with gas and gear. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. He said it would be better with an aftermarket tire carrier/bumper combo. Maybe he was just trying to make me spend more money.

Bringing up an old thread, but...

I've had this for over a year now. It's fairly easy to mount, and does use the factory spare tire mounting holes. Enough folks have had those pop out that I bought the re-enforcement brackets from MBRP as a precaution with this kit. The tray obviously blocks rearward vision and when unloaded, will bounce up and down when going over bumps or rough terrain. Give this, I've not actually put load on the tray when driving, only when out of the vehicle to free up space in the interior for sleeping room. One more negative - when using the hard top, you have to use a mounting position that's further away from the jeep to make room for the hard top glass. By doing it, it reduces the weight capacity for the tray.

All in all it's not a bad product for what I'm using it for and for light weight storage it should be okay.

Hopefully that helps.

This is a fairly late response to this thread, which I happend to discover while searching for reviews about the same product.

Same as most people questioning this product, I was unable to find reviews to assist me with my purchase judgement. However, I did see it in person on a nicely moded 2 door JK and I liked the idea.

I can see how it can help in expanding storage while on trails and trips... It also looked apealing enough to me. I have also noticed that there are alternative brackets as well, but the tailgate version is what I saw and had interest in. I have recently ordered the tailgate rack braket + the rack itself, and still waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully will receive it sometime soon, and will be able to post my personal experience with it.

While waiting for the arrival of the product, I've been thinking about other uses that I may experement with, such as:
- Mounting a CB bracket to one of the vertical beams.
- Mounting some small lights on the corners for rear illumination.

Of course, rear visibility sounds like an issue with this rack in place, not to mention you have to always keep in mind that the spare tire is no longer the extreme end of the jeep, specially when trying to park in reverse against a wall hopefully, I will remember this part! haha

Good point spaceninja.

I had a set-up like this on my 'ol 93 YJ.
I reinforced the tailgate and even extended the mounting
points of the spare. But after years of good service I killed
the rack and my rag top window when I plowed into a
telephone pole while backing out of a parking space.
I never even saw it. Just....KABLAM!!!
The rack was a mangled mess and my jerry cans were
laying on the ground....thankfully they didn't rupture.

But Just to be sure everyone knows, This rack will cause you
to have a significant blind spot Directly behind You.
Unless you have a back-up cam. that would have saved me
a lot of grief. Needless to say, but I never did replace the rack
once it was toast.

The Next rack for me, (if I decide to get one) will be going on
the top of my rig. Yea, it'll make my center of gravity a bit higher.
But the knowledge of knowing how to pack, and the peace of mind
that I won't be "blinding" myself far out weigh any other concerns.

Hope this helps.

I like that rear bumper, with the lower roller.
Any idea who makes it?
