Default Better Fuel Ecomony

Gas prices down here in South Africa are heading for the equivalent of $7/gallon.

I think it's time to get drastic with improving my JKs fuel efficiency.

I just lifted my JK 2", but with the upcoming fuel price there's no way I'm putting on bigger tires.

I have a 2011 Rubicon, so a programmer isnt possible. Unless they've finally made one I'm not aware of?

So what options do I have? Will installing a CAI help? Or maybe new exhaust?

Any ideas will be appreciated!

$7? Youre lucky We are closing in on $10 per gallon, even expect $12 after the summer.

To keep MPG high, you should make sure to:

Find leightweight tires with low road resistanse, not over 33" in size.
Forget about adding winch and bumpers.
Try to keep wind resistance low, no roof rack or extra lights.
Custom intake and exhaust do some difference.

And wait for an programmer... Words are that the 2012 will get theirs before summer, not heard anything about 2011.

Yes, NOT adding things will keep your mileage up. For instance, my roof rack dropped me 2 mpg.

Other than that, keeping your vehicle maintained is really the only way. Mods like low resistance tires negate the whole reason to get a Jeep in the first place.

It really annoys me that 2011's can't get a programmer. Is it that hard to crack the encryption on the ECU?

what about adding an exhaust and CAI to help with gas milage. Mine I gained about 2.5mpg just by adding the two. I do have a superchips witch helped, with better shift points, that sucks they have not been able to get a 2011 programer

I agree. I would mod it out and enjoy it the way it should be. Jeeps will never get good fuel economy. Buy a cheap gas saver car to drive around and keep the Jeep as a toy

I don't think it's that hard to crack its that the customer base isn't there to warrant spending the time on R&D to crack the 2011 ECU. Theres a small number of the people who own the 2011 and a smaller number of people that would want the programmer. Even though they may not admit it that's the reason why there is no programmer

I wonder what effect removing the factory fenders will have on MPG? I would think that removing those elephant ears would reduce wind resistance on the highway, although flying rocks might ding up your paint job in the process...

I'm driving like a granny. I have an auto Rubicon Unlimited.
Currently getting about 15.7MPG in town. I'm starting to think that's about as good as it'll get for a 2011 till a programmer comes out.

Most people seem to say CAI, Throttle Body Spacer and Free Flow Exhaust doesn't do much besides make a nice sound, or is this not true? If I get a CAI (cold water intake) I'll build an enclosure for it to work with a snorkel. No way I'm wheeling with a CAI that isn't covered up.
