Default Bikini Top Question

So I'm looking into purchasing a bikini top. I know it requires a windshield header, but I was just wondering if the bikini top is waterproof. Does it let water go through it?

lets just call it water resistant. also.. not only do you need the windshield channel.. but you also need the door surrounds.. the bolts for the surrounds.. and the tailgate bar and clips...

and then once you get it on.. youre going to want to get a top prop and a tonno prop.

Depends - they make a bikini top for JKs with Soft top or without. If your JK came with just the Hard top, make sure you get the right one. Those made for the soft top use the door surrounds for extra stability. And as far as waterproof - no. It's about as waterproof as an umbrella

Ahhh I guess I will have to call and talk to a customer service person. Gotta make sure I get the right thing.

I was looking at bikini tops for my JK and ended up with a safari top which goes all the way back. Not rain proof at all ... But I live in socal so that's not usually an issue.

If you just do the top, without the Duster, you don't need the tailgate bar and clips. But, then you have this big opening in the back of the Jeep over the rear tub area.

Make sure the person you talk to knows what he's talking about, especially if it's a person at the dealership. Don't ask me how I know.
My recommendation - go with the Sun Bonnet from mopar. It's more expensive but comes with the stock header already attached and seems to get better reviews then the plain ole' Bestop. Just make sure if you have an '10 or newer you get the hard top version because your soft top door surrounds will not work with the soft top version.

Okay, I know nothing about bikini tops. I know a ton about the safari tops. I recommend the following to get you as close as possible to waterproof with your Unlimited:

1. Mopar softtop Sunbonnet (silly name for their safari top). Bestop makes one, but Mopar is better. Yes, it's lots more expensive, but it's worth it. The header bar is built into the Mopar version, so you don't have to buy that also. Do be aware of model year changes in how the tops mount--make certain what you get works with your year of Jeep.

2. Door surrounds. If you don't own a softtop, you'll want to buy these.

3. Bestop Duster with mounting hardware (tailgate bar and clips, which if you already own a softtop you'll already have). This will keep your tub area dry.

4. A Bestop Windjammer, which will leave some of the back open to the worst rain or when parked, or a TWO-DOOR (since they don't make a four-door) WRAPAROUND Windjammer, which will seal the back better. You will have to stretch it to force it to fit. You can also modify a regular Windjammer to add more material to seal up the openings.

5. A Bestop Trail Cover to throw over everything when parked. Works great with/without doors and with/without top. Even can be made to work with hardtop and no doors.

Look here for tons of pictures and information on safari tops ...
