bikini top, wind jammer, duster, combo
i think i want a bikini top, windjammer, duster, combo this spring for my 08 unlimited. i would like to hear from anyone with any kind of advice/knowledge on this subject. thanks tom
I ran that combo on my four door last summer--no pic's of all of it installed. I love the bikini top (I actually had the Mopar Sun Bonnet--terrible name, but similar piece of hardware). The duster was a great addition--gave the rear a finished look and added a smidgen of privacy. The windjammer--now I'm talking the windjammer and not the wrap-around windjammer, which isn't available for the four door--hardly adds anything. There are huge gaps between it and the doors, if you run with the doors. Basically, it adds a small window between the rear seat headrests, and a little fabric on each side that is hidden by the headrests. All of the rest is open. It did see that the billowing of the safari top (forward part sails up and rear part pushes down onto rear seat passengers at highway speed) was lessened. So that probably makes it worth the price. Some have modified their windjammers to add fabric and give a water-tight seal. RescueX did, then later sold it commenting that the rear vision was terrible.
BTW: I went with the Mopar Sun Bonnet because they have a version designed for folks who don't own the softtop hardware. I didn't (ATT), so it worked nicely. But, there are big gaps between it and the doors, if they're installed. You can fit your hand partway through the gap to the outside--you'll get wet if it rains. Add the softtop hardware and you can stay dry up front, though some water will enter through the rear.
Bottom line: Get the safari top for the sunny days. And carry rain gear for the rainy ones. It worked for me!

This past fall I ran with this combo from Bestop on my 2DR.
You can use the door surrounds or not, the strapless bikini offers the option for both but you will also have to purchase the header for the windshield. I bought the wrap around windjammer, which does require the door surrounds, in hopes of keeping some rain at bay and the standard duster.
With everything installed I was pleased with the small truck like cabin but had a lot of rain leaking in from the bikini. The fix was easy enough and I was impressed with how little it leaked afterward. The windjammer is nice because it really does wrap around and keep the rain out and the duster is great because it hides your cargo. The Jeep looks pretty sharp with the setup too. The one item I didn't purchase was the roll bar covers, which if I run again with this year, I will definitely invest in. The rollbar covers that come stock will absorb water when it rains and the ones from Bestop are made from the same material that the soft tops are made from, making them water resistant. Maybe not a big deal, but in heavy rain storms I would find a good deal of water leaking into the cargo area with the stock covers.
Overall, I like the protection from the sudden shower, especially on cargo, but it was not very convenient for me when I wanted to take it all off and I was away from home. I just purchased a TrekTop which is basically a slanted soft top with removable windows and the ability to open the top above the front seats. I'm hoping I will like this one a little more.
My only advice is give it a try and see if you like the setup. The nice thing about these products is if you don't like them you are bound to find someone who is looking for them. Enjoy!

I had the Bestop bikini top, windjammer, duster last year. I sold it.
If you want water in your Jeep, this is perfect! And for the Unlimited version, the Windjammer doesn't close completely like the 2 door version.

I ran all last year (@4 months) with the safari, duster, and windjammer on my 4dr. I loved it. With the soft top door surrounds it sealed up pretty good around the doors. The Windjammer cuts down on the air movement inside the cabin(just like convertible blockers), and also helps lift the front of the duster so any rain rolls off the back/sides. I always felt like I was protected from the elements but I couldstill feel like I was on a shielded patio with fresh air.
I am definitely interested in selling my complete setup though, due to moving soon to colder climate and not expecting to remove my hardtop much. Everything in great shape. PM me if interested.

But, as America sang, it never rains in Southern California, right? BTW: That's a sharp looking Jeep. I really like the rack above the storage area--do you have a write-up on that?
For OP, something I failed to mention is that one difference between the Bestop and the Mopar safari tops is the Bestop does not come with the header channel, you must purchase it separately. The Mopar comes with it built in. Also, if it's not clear, there are two versions of the Windjammer: Windjammer and Wrap-around Windjammer. The latter provides more full enclosure of the JK, but is not available for the four door.

I am thinking of running this combo for the summer but I am surpised to hear that it leaks so badly. I am guessing that it leaks around where the wrap around windjammer and safari top meet at the top?
I run with the safari top and duster here in CO. I "try" to avoid the rain, but at the end of the day it isn't always possible and sometimes we get a little wet.
But its a Jeep! It's make to stand up to the elements. Getting wet comes with the territory.
The only thing i DO NOT like about this setup is that putting on and off the Safari top is a little more work than I'd prefer (its easy, just takes a few min), and the header bar is long, so it really isn't convinent to keep the top folded up in the trunk and throw it on when its really sunny or is going to rain a little.
Once I accepted the fact that sometimes it is going to rain and the Jeep is going to get wet, and that is OKAY, I started to really enjoy this setup in the summer a lot more.
