Default Body armor nutsert question...

Looking for an install tip here with my Nemesis body armor. I have drilled the initial hole in the metal, but when I put the nutsert in to compress, it's a little too long. Will it compress ok, and will the lip seat if I go ahead and crank it down? Do I need to push the inner panel in to get the lip to seat before I compress this thing? Anyone with this experience? I'm thinking once the nutsert loses length during the compression, as long as I maintain forward pressure, it'll seat properly.

I picked up a tool at menards to help compress the nutsert tightly against the metal. There are several different choices but my kit came with a bolt, nuts and washers.

I bought a great tool to work with, so compressing them isn't a problem. I'm wondering if the lip needs to be fully seated against the sheet metal before you compress. With these nutserts it's not possible without denting or drilling the inner panel. Any ideas?

When I did my nutsert on my armor I had the nutsert against the metal before I started to tighten it down against the metal.

Hmmmm. Thanks. Well I guess you had shorter nutserts. That sounded wrong...... I better get a definitive answer befor I move forward.

I hate nutserts but yeah they get shorter as they are installed. if you putting any in the front fenders in the area between the front fender well and door, if found it is easier if you unbolt the bottom of the fender and pull it away from the body, then put it back when you are done, drilling and installing the nutserts. It avoids interference from the body under the fender panel.

Well I decided to just take a bolt slightly smaller in diameter than the hole and dent the rear panel. Worked great. I had to be careful not to distort the hole though while hammering.
