Default BPE's in OME shocks!!

Well, they said it could not be done...... well it can. I spent the night up at the shop last night working on the install of my new to me OME shocks. I also ordered some JKS BPE's from Northridge. After removing the barpin from the OME shock I noticed that this was not the run of the mill shock bushing. OME uses press fit bushings with the barpin fused to the bushing in the top of their shocks. I am posting this so others who would like to put BPE's on their JK but are running OME shocks can do it. Trust it is not the easy road but the results were great.

-First remove the barpin from the OME shock. I did this by clamping the BP in the vise and spinning the shock around until it breaks free.
-After it breaks free remove the pin.
-Next (this is the tricky part.) get a socket that is the same size as the large shock hoop (the one that the rubber bushing metal is pressed into), then get another socket that is the size of the rubber bushing metal ring. Place the big socket on one side and the smaller socket on the opther side and strat to tighten the vise.
BE SURE TO KEEP THIS ALL LINED UP AS NOT TO HAVE SOCKETS SHOOTING INTO YOUR FACE.
-this should allow you to push the metal ring and bushing right out the other side into the large socket. loosen it all up and take the OME bushing out and repeat on the other shock.

Now that you have the bushings out you are probably wondering wtf is next, you don't have bushings. Well that should be one of the first things I told you, get some Poly bushings to replace the ones you are removing ( I say poly because the rubber ones are a bit harder to insert into the hoops than the poly, you can spray poly with a little alcohol and it is very slick, pops right in there.)

-Place the poly bushings into the hoops where the other OME bushings were (you can do this with the vise, but I prefer to set the poly bushing on the work bench, center the shock hole over the bushing, resting it on the bushing spray it with your alcohol, and press down hard on the shock (POP) it will be in.
-Now you can begin the install of the Bar Pin Eliminators.

All in all it was alot of work for BPE's but I was commmited when I decided to do this as i have already ruined one of my shocks, this was a great fix and gives me the setup i wanted anyway, so, most might not want to do this as it is labor intensive for minimal payoff. The JKS units are alot stronger than the stock Bar Pins so that is a plus, and the bushings are pre-loaded now per the "point" of doing BPE's in the first place. This may by quickly filed into the obscure section of things no one does but if I helped one fellow Jeeper I am cool with that. Good Times. JOE>
