Which Brand of Gears?
2014 JKUR with manual transmission. Added 2.5in lift and 315/70-17 Duratracs. Stayed with stock 4.10 gears. After 2 months, decided I want to re gear to 4.56s to get back close to stock Rubi gearing (I miss the low end grunt)
Any recommendation on which brand of gears. Superior, Yukon, AlloyUSA, Spicer.. Others?
If so. Why.
More importantly any horror stories with any gear brands?
Thanks in advance

From my understanding is that the "brand name" is irrelevant but a set of gears that are properly installed, break in period, maintenance will be key to the longevity of them.
I have Yukon and no issues with mine. I had them professionally installed and inspected after my break in period. DO WHAT THEIR INSTRUCTIONS SAY as far at the break in.

I'll never do business with them again. Their inferior bolts caused me $$$$ in extra damages, parts and labor.
Skip Nitro Gears. The bolts ring gear bolts they supplied failed causing gear failure and destroyed my axle housing and LSD with pieces of broken bolts. No only did they not warrantee my gears they charged me full price and up charged me on next day shipping. I'll never do business with them again. Check out 4WS.com. They are a sponsor on here. I got a set of front and rear Yukon 4.56 's (and master rebuild Timken kits) from them at an unbelievable price. Did the rebuild myself while installing trutracs in front and rear. These gears set up really nicely. I re-installed using the same shims that came out of old gear set-up. Contact pattern and backlash were spot on. Only had to add a small amount of shim to get the differential preload to factory specs. The gears run smooth and quiet. I'm very happy with them. I've read only good things about the strength of Yukon gears.

I bought from the same shop a couple of months ago. Bought Yukon 4.88 gears w/ the master overhaul kit. Installed front/rear Eaton Truetracs, as well. You absolutely cannnot tell they're there until you need them---- just how I want it. Had them professionally installed about 1000 miles ago and have gone through 3 synthetic oil changes (2 Royal Purple and the latest with Amsoil Severe Gear) since the regear to ensure minimal shavings are found in the oil. Very happy with this set-up.

BTW keep us posted on how the truetracs perform front/rear. I will regearing to 4.56 and adding truetracs eventually at the same time. Only time I have heard bad things is from people that do not have them and do not know how they work.

BTW, I have Motive 4.88 gears and Truetracs front and rear. Motive has been in the gear/axle/transfer case/transmission parts business for 65 years.
And no, all gears are not the same. The source of the steel used to make the gears makes a big difference in strength and wear resistance. The installer is also important. They should be experienced enough to spot poor fitting or underrated parts and correct potential problems before they become actual problems. When was the last time you heard of an installer lapping the rear face of a ring gear or even checking the run-out after installation? Does the installer give you a written brake-in schedule? Since factory components go through a break-in at the factory people tend to discount the importance of proper break-in for upgrades.
