On a side note...tires in general are bad news an I avoid them when wheeling.

I once ran over an old passenger car tire at a pit and it grabbed and wedged in my wheel well. Took me 30 minutes to get it out and it ruined my Sahara side step (before I got my Rubi rails.)

The fender was bent up pretty bad. I think a few extra screws and it will be good to go again.

that's what i was thinking. cv joints are really strong and clearly, shifting the breaking point elsewhere. think i'll stick with my u-joints.

with a break like yours, there's a good chance your splines are twisted and the shaft might be really stuck in there. you'll most likely have to resort to doing what dynatrac suggested.

There was a guy a couple of years ago with a TJ Rubi that broke both rear shafts at the neck down point. No matter what they tried, they couldn't get them out. Since the shafts were though the bearings, the diff could not be removed. Finally they removed it by cutting the case apart with a plasma cutter.

A valid point. To the OP, what DS are you running? I would have expected a 1310 to lose a u-joint but from the mods listed in your profile I'm wondering if you are running 1350.

The DS are custom and are 1350. One more try tomorrow and I'll see what happens.
