Default Bump Steer Question

I own a 07 two door wrangler that has a Pro Comp 4 inch Lift. Included in this lift are front and rear adjustable track bars (bought apart from the lift kit). I have been experiencing quite a lot of bump steer issues, normally when i hit a bump it shimmys side to side a bit at various speeds. But when im driving past 60 and i hit a bump in the road the shimmy causes death wobble. there are two ways to correcting this (as i see). One you can buy a dual steering stabilizer or two, buy a lengthen pitman arm. I for one will use the dual steering stabilizer as a last resort only. My question is will the pitman arm correct the steering stability of the vehicle? and if anyone has fixed this problem, how is it working compared to before?

Thank you for reading

while i agree with a lot of what was said, dropped pitman arms are not a no no and i've been running one for 4 years and the last 3 of which have been while running 40s'. having said that, if you install a dropped pitman arm or drag link flip, you NEED to make sure that you install a track bar relocation bracket at the same time. you cannot do one without the other and being that you have a 4" lift, they are something that you should have installed. now, while installing them will help correct your steering geometry and help restore the handling of your jeep, it will not solve the problems that you're experiencing. more than likely, you have a loose track bar, worn out bushing, failing mount or have ball joints that are going bad. i would start addressing your problems by giving them a look first.

I have chased my tail on this death wobble issue for a while now, roughly six months. So far i have replaced Ball Joints, Track Bars, Steering Stabilizers, and Bushings. I just got my Jeep back from the dealership and they inspected it and told me that everything looks good except the drag link and trackbar are at two different angles. Also I took my jeep to a 4 wheel parts store and had them disassemble and check for any ovaling of any of the brackets.

I also have two friends with 08 two doors that are in the same boat as me that have settled for the dual steering stabilizer because they had given up on the search for the problem. i for one am hoping i can find the source of the problem before i go broke.

if your drag link and track bar are really at two different angles, that's a big problem and most likely the source of a lot of your problems. they NEED to be parallel to each other and if at all possible, as close to parallel with your front axle too. if they are off, you will have bump steer issues among other things.

There is one other thing i forgot to mention, and i think it has something to do with the problem. i have been waiting for my new 35's to ship since September and in that time i have lifted my jeep and kept the smallest of the stock tires on it. Im not sure if this has anything to do with it but if it gives you all any ideas.

thank you

shouldn't make a difference so long as all the tires were originally the same size. assuming none of them are cupped and that your toe is set properly, you should be okay. even if they are, they can only help to trigger DW, not allow it to occur.
