Question Bump Stops Needed On 2" Lift?

I am installing an Old Man Emu 2" lift on a friends 08 Unlimited. Are bump stops needed on such a small lift?

measure the distnace you have until the shock bottoms out, then measure the distance between the upper and lower bump stops (measure to the hard part, not the white squishy part).

If you shock measurement is SHORTER than your bumpstop, we will bottom out the shocks first, which is bad and you need longer bump stops.

But as you have it now, you will NOT get any additional upwards travel as the bump stops set that lenght so you will not hit your fender, etc. Now if you put bigger tires on, then you need to reconsider.

Are you running the same life I am refering to? 2" OEM HD lift? .. this is the only kit i have seen that did not include extended bump stops. As far as i know its to protect the shock from bottoming out. But i guess with this lift OME does not see the need for them. I just dont want to mess up my buddies jeep

I have bump stops left over from my old Rubicon Express lift. But i dont have the self tapping bolts for the front bump stops anymore nor do i know there size. if i had those bolts i woul just toss them in.

OME has many different coils, all are packaged as 2". The HD's he is referring to give well over 3" of lift. - Which coils does your friend have? (there is a small tag with a 3 digit number on each coil)

I have the ome hd's on my unlimited. With a heavy bumper/winch, I got about 3.25" up front. Disconnected, my coils fully stacked and my 295/75/16's (32" actual height) rubbed enough to rip a fender off. I added 3/4" coil spacers and 2" lower bumpstops. The coils no longer stacked, but the tires still rubbed slightly.

Anyway, it will depend on which coils, whether he disconnects, how big the tires are, which model, how much extra weight, etc...

I got a 2.5" lift and got bumpstops as well. Why not? They won't break the bank and you don't have to worry about breaking a shock either. But that's just my opinion and I'm a "just in case" kind of guy.

Im just using my old rubicon express spacer lift with old man emu shocks. 2.5" front 1.75" rear to be exact. Bone stock unlimted. I dont want to run around looking for bump stops or having to wait a week or so for some to come in im doing this in about 2 more hours.
